How to Draw a Face in 14 Steps

How to Draw a Face in 14 Steps coloring page

Coloring guide

Fourteen small numbered drawings show a front-facing male head built up one stage at a time. Step 1 starts with a plain circle and a vertical guide line. Next the circle is extended into a rounded jaw shape, and horizontal guide lines mark the eye line and the lower face, with a few fraction arrows showing proportions. Five oval shapes are lined up across the eye line to space the eyes. Then come the eyes, the nose, the mouth, the ears, the eyebrows, and the neck. Step 13 adds the hairline and outline of the hair, and step 14 finishes with the shaded face and hatched hair. This page works well as a practice sheet. Print it free and have kids copy one step at a time on scrap paper, or color the final portrait with pencils, using light skin tones and short strokes that follow the hair lines.
