Jesus Stands Before Pilate Surrounded by Roman Soldiers

A seated man in a draped toga and sandals rests on a wooden chair on a raised platform, pointing toward a long-haired, bearded man in a long robe who stands with his hands clasped in front of him. A Roman soldier seen from behind faces them, holding a spear and wearing a crested helmet, a segmented chest plate, and a pleated skirt. Two robed men stand behind the chair, one gesturing with an open hand. Other soldiers in helmets stand at the edges, and one holds a tall standard topped with ornaments. Stone steps with a Greek key border and arched windows fill the background. For a Good Friday lesson, kids could color the soldiers' armor in metallic grays and bronze, then talk about who is sitting, who is standing, and what each person might be feeling. The large shapes work well for crayons or markers.
