Kangaroo Mom and Joey Bouncing Along, Animals Coloring Sheet
Coloring guide
A mother kangaroo bounds over a grassy hill with her tiny joey peeking from her front pouch, and both look delighted. Mom has big upright ears, a wide open-mouthed grin, and front paws held near her chest, with her long tail curving out behind. The joey has pointy ears of its own, a cheerful face, and two small paws resting on the pouch edge. You'll also find rounded bushes, tufts of grass, and a small curved hop mark near her feet. Big open shapes suit preschoolers and early elementary kids, and the joey's face gives steadier hands a bit of a challenge. Sandy browns and tans would suit mom, a lighter shade of the same for the joey, and fresh greens for the bushes and grass. Want more? A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big kangaroo body, tail, and legs in warm brown, leaving small white gaps for the highlights on the feet.
- 2Fill the belly pouch and the joey's head with pale cream and light tan, keeping the joey's ears and face bright.
- 3Color the inside of the big ear and the joey's right ear with soft pink, and paint the ear rims warm brown.
- 4Add the grass green bushes on both sides of the background, and leave the ground and sky white.
- 5Color the nose chocolate brown, then fill the muzzle, mouth, and cheek areas with pale cream, leaving the teeth white.
- 6Finish with the paws and toes in warm brown and pale cream, keeping the eye whites and small shine spots white. Optional: Add a slightly darker brown along the edges of the body for a little depth.
