This coastal scene features a tall striped lighthouse on a small rocky island with wavy lines of water around it. The tower has three arched windows, a little wooden door at the bottom, a railed balcony, and a lantern room with a glowing flame under a domed roof. Three seagulls fly nearby, and a smiling sun peeks from behind a fluffy cloud in the upper corner. Small leafy plants sprout between the rocks at the base. The wide bands on the tower are simple to fill, and the rocks and waves leave room to practice shading. Red and white stripes, a yellow glow in the lantern and soft blue water work well together. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big rocky island: color the rocks light gray, leaving the wavy sea lines and the grassy patches uncolored.
- 2Color the lighthouse tower's red bands and the small red cap and top ball with bright red, keeping the white stripes white.
- 3Fill the dome band, the gallery base, the balcony railings and the sun with sunny yellow, then add warm gold to the small lamp inside the lantern.
- 4Color the grass tufts and the green patches on the right rock with bright green and soft green.
- 5Fill the door with warm brown and the window glass and lantern glass with sky blue, then color the cloud pale blue.
- 6Optional: add a little darker shading on the lower sides of the rocks and the tower for depth.
