Little Explorer Studying a Fossil With Magnifying Glass

A small animal explorer kneels beside a flat, many-sided stone slab and leans in to look closely at it. The character wears a round bubble helmet with a wide-brim cap inside, plus a jacket with a buttoned pocket, a backpack strap and a curled tail at the back. One hand holds a big magnifying glass over the stone, and the other holds a small forked tool. Faint outlines on the slab show a fossil with a round head, a long row of ribs and lots of thin legs. Try coloring the fossil in soft grays and tans so it looks like it is part of the rock, then use brighter colors for the cap and jacket. This free printable also works well for a lesson on fossils, where kids can guess what creature left the pattern behind.
