Mother Duck and Ducklings Mother's Day Page
Coloring guide
Gliding across a pond, a big smiling mother duck leads three little ducklings paddling in a line behind her. The smallest one seems to be riding close to her wing. A grassy bank sits on each side of the page, both with cattails and tall grass. Ripples circle the ducks in the water, and three lily pads float in the bottom corner. Bold lines and large shapes suit preschoolers and early elementary kids. The mother's wing, the ducklings' tiny tails and the lily pad veins add a few smaller spots for practice. Bright yellow ducklings, soft orange beaks and a mix of greens and blues for the pond work well. Print this free page for a quick coloring break whenever you like. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the mother duck's whole body and the ducklings in golden yellow, leaving the small eye whites and the little highlight on each eye white.
- 2Fill the water around the ducks and under the ducklings with sky blue, using light strokes that follow the ripple lines.
- 3Color the mother duck's beak and lower beak in orange, and keep the eye whites bright white.
- 4Color the lily pads, grassy banks, and all the grass blades and reeds in grass green, with the darkest reed shade in dark green.
- 5Fill the cattail heads on both sides with cattail brown, then leave the background between the reeds white.
- 6Optional: add a little darker shading under the ducks and along the edges of the grass for depth.
