Off to School with Dora the Explorer and Boots
Coloring guide
Dora and her monkey friend Boots stride along in matching school outfits, holding hands. Dora has her bowl-shaped haircut, an argyle sweater vest over a collared shirt, a pleated skirt, patterned knee socks and buckle shoes. A stack of books is tucked under one arm while she smiles at Boots. He looks up at her with a big grin, wearing a bow tie and sweater, and swings a small lunch box in his free hand. There's no background, so kids can focus on the two characters. The diamond patterns on Dora's vest and socks are great for practicing neat shading, so try alternating purple and pink diamonds. Download the free PDF and keep a few extra copies around, since there's plenty of room to try different colors. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big skin areas: color Dora's face and legs warm orange, and the monkey's face and hands blush pink, leaving the eye whites and Dora's teeth white.
- 2Fill Dora's hair with dark brown, then use chocolate brown for the eye irises and leave small white shine spots on the hair and eyes.
- 3Color Dora's dress, vest and skirt in lilac purple and orchid purple, and add periwinkle blue to the diamond patterns on the vest.
- 4Give the monkey periwinkle blue for his body, arms, legs and tail, with a soft yellow sweater and a sky blue bow tie.
- 5Color the shoes and boots: bright red for the monkey's boots, lilac purple for Dora's shoes, and bright blue for the satchel and book.
- 6Optional: add a few darker strokes of dark red inside the monkey's open mouth and a touch of rose pink on Dora's sleeves for extra depth.
