On a sandy beach sits an open wooden treasure chest, packed to the brim with round coins, one large sparkling diamond and a few cut gemstones. A beaded pearl necklace spills over the front edge, and both sides of the chest have a keyhole lock and metal bands. A palm tree curves up behind it with a small cluster of coconuts, and a few grass blades poke up on the right. Down in the sand there's a starfish, a scallop shell, a couple of small rocks and some loose coins. Clean, bold outlines and a mix of big and small areas make it a good match for many ages. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the chest body and lid: color the wooden planks and front panels with chocolate brown, leaving the pearl necklace beads white.
- 2Fill the palm tree: color the fronds with leaf green, the trunk and coconuts with light brown, and the grass with leaf green.
- 3Color the metal trim, lock plates, rivets and the coin pile with golden yellow, adding warm yellow to the edge of the front strap.
- 4Fill the big diamond with light blue and sky blue, and color the red gem and green gem on the sides of the treasure.
- 5Color the starfish with orange, the seashell with pale pink, and the two small stones with warm gray.
- 6Optional: Add a little light yellow to the top of the coins for a bit of shine, and keep the pearls and background white.
