Sunrise Mountain and Dove for Martin Luther King Jr. Day
Coloring guide
A small dove with outstretched wings flies upward above a big round sun in this simple line drawing. The sun sits right behind a tall mountain peak with a snowy cap that has a wavy, dripping edge. Long straight rays spread in every direction, some short and some long, filling the sky around the bird. At the bottom left and right, puffy clouds with scalloped edges tuck in beside the mountain, and a few curved lines on the slopes show ridges and folds. Thick outlines and wide open spaces make it easy for younger children, while the rays and cloud scallops give older kids some detail. For Martin Luther King Jr. Day, you could color the sky in soft sunrise oranges and pinks, the dove in white and pale gray, and the mountain in blues and purples. This free printable suits a quiet classroom activity about hope and peace. Kids who like Martin Luther King Jr. Day coloring pages usually enjoy Christmas and Halloween too.

- golden yellow
A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the big sun circle behind the mountain with golden yellow, working from the edges toward the center.
- 2Fill the cloud on the left side with sky blue, staying inside the black outlines.
- 3Fill the cloud on the right side with sky blue as well, so both clouds match.
- 4Leave the dove, the snowy mountain peak and the mountain slopes white so they stand out against the colors.
- 5Keep the sun rays and the background white, since they are empty space in this example.
- 6Optional: add light back-and-forth pencil strokes in the sun and clouds for a textured, hand-colored look.
