Big Penguin Colony Gathered on an Icy Shore

An adult penguin stands front and center with a fluffy, round-bellied chick tucked against it, and a whole colony crowds the snowy ground behind. On the left, another adult stands with a small chick at its side. On the right, a group of chicks huddles near two tall adults. Two penguins lie on their bellies up front, one more sleeps on the right, and little splash marks are drawn near the sliders. A lone chick looks up from the bottom left corner. Rows of penguins fill the distance, and flat ice floes, big angular icebergs and jagged mountains line the horizon. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the big emperor penguin's belly and the chick's belly in cream white, then fill the standing chick and the sleeping penguins with light gray.
- 2Paint the open water between the icebergs and the small ice floes in ocean blue, and fill the icebergs and distant mountains with icy pale blue.
- 3Color the emperor penguins' backs, wings, and heads in charcoal gray, leaving the bellies and faces cream.
- 4Add sky blue to the distant ice and the top right edge, and give the penguin on the left a golden yellow head.
- 5Fill the gray chicks in the background with light gray, and keep the snow mounds, snow patches, and sky white.
- 6Optional: Add a little charcoal gray shading along the edges of the icebergs and the bellies to make the ice and penguins look more rounded.
