Five Fluffy Chicks Hugged by a Penguin Parent

Coloring guide
A big penguin parent looks down kindly while five fluffy chicks squeeze together in front of it. The parent's long flippers sweep down around the babies in a sort of hug. Every chick has big round eyes, a tiny beak and soft feathery edges. Two chicks stand in the top row, three in the bottom row, and their little feet show at the bottom. Simple ice cliffs rise on both sides of a flat, icy horizon. The parent's large shapes are easy for small hands, and the fuzzy chick outlines are good detail practice for older kids. Soft grey or light blue would suit the chicks, and black with a warm yellow or orange beak the parent. Download the free PDF for a screen-free activity at home. - cool gray
- charcoal gray
- dark gray
- sky blue
- golden orange
- pale gray
A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the adult penguin's head top, back and long flippers with charcoal gray, leaving its big round face and belly white.
- 2Fill the five chicks' fluffy bodies with cool gray, then add pale gray to the back of the upper right chick for a soft highlight.
- 3Use dark gray for the head tops of the upper left chick and the front chick, keeping their round faces white.
- 4Color both icebergs with sky blue, and leave the ice ledges and background white.
- 5Paint all the beaks and feet with golden orange so the little details pop.
- 6Optional: add light shading with a slightly darker gray along the bottom edge of each chick for a bit of depth.
