One striped kitten is pouncing on a spotted kitten, who lies on its back in a big pile of fallen leaves with its paws in the air. The striped one has a long, curved, banded tail, a wide open smile, and stripes along its head, back and legs. The spotted kitten looks up happily and has large patches on its body and one ear. Maple-style leaves cover the bottom of the page, with more drifting down through the air above. Tall tree trunks with branches frame both sides, and leafy bushes sit in the background. The leaf shapes are big enough for small hands, while the stripes and spots keep older kids busy. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big orange kitten: fill its head, body and tail with light orange, leaving the white paw and eye whites uncolored.
- 2Color the gray kitten's body and tail with light gray, then add its gray head patch and darker leg details with charcoal gray.
- 3Fill the tree trunks with chestnut brown and the background bushes with leaf green and olive green, keeping the sky white.
- 4Color the leaf pile with golden yellow, bright orange, scarlet red, brick red and rust red, mixing the warm autumn tones.
- 5Add the coral pink inner ears, cream belly and paw, and bright yellow tail tip on the gray kitten, then finish the remaining leaves with mustard yellow and pale gold.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker shading in the corners of the leaves with a deeper version of the same color for extra depth.
