Rattle-Shaking Baby with Floating Hearts

With a few curly tufts of hair and an open-mouth grin, this baby grips a rattle in both chubby hands. Small motion lines next to it show the shaking, and the round rattle head has a band of three circles around the middle. The long-sleeved top has a rounded neckline and cuffs at the wrists. Three little outlined hearts float near the head and shoulder: one upper left, one upper right and one by the rattle. Big sparkly eyes and rosy cheeks leave lots of space for color. Bold lines and large shapes make it a good fit for kids just learning to stay inside the lines. Sunny yellow for the rattle with red and blue circles, plus pink hearts, would look great. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big skin areas: color the face, neck, chest, ears, arms and both hands with light peach.
- 2Color the baby's sleeves and the bottom of the sleeves at the bottom of the picture with sky blue, leaving the hands and face unchanged.
- 3Fill the top and bottom halves of the rattle with golden yellow, then color the middle band of the rattle bright red.
- 4Add the leaf green handle of the rattle, and paint the three dots on the red band sky blue, keeping the center dot the same blue.
- 5Color the two floating hearts and the small heart on the right with bright red, then fill the open mouth with deep red and the tongue with coral pink.
- 6Finish by leaving the eye whites and the small shine spots in the eyes white. Optional: add light shading on the cheeks and under the chin with a slightly darker peach for depth.
