Little space fans will like this cheerful rocket lifting off. It has a pointed nose cone, a big round porthole with a smiling kawaii face looking out, and small rivets around the glass. Two curved side fins and a bold center fin sit at the bottom, and a striped band runs across the body. Exhaust streaks down into big puffy clouds of smoke that fill the lower part of the page, while four small stars of different sizes dot the open sky. Thick outlines and large shapes keep it easy for preschoolers and early elementary kids to stay inside the lines. Red and orange would look good on the fins and nose cone, with a sky blue porthole and soft gray and lavender smoke. Yellow stars pop against the white paper. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the stars and the main exhaust flame: fill them with golden yellow, leaving small gaps for the glow.
- 2Color the two side fins, the front center fin, and the tip of the nose cone in bright red.
- 3Fill the clouds at the bottom and sides with pale blue, and color the small cloud left of the flame warm orange.
- 4Color the thick ring around the window in sky blue, and fill the round window face with pale blue, leaving the small round dots white.
- 5Add the stripe across the body in golden yellow, keeping the rest of the rocket body white.
- 6Optional: add light diagonal strokes on the flame and the clouds in a slightly darker shade to create a little depth.
