Scarecrow and a Wheelbarrow of Halloween Pumpkins

Waving from behind a wheelbarrow is a friendly scarecrow in a wide-brimmed hat with a patch, a checkered shirt and overalls. The wheelbarrow is piled high with pumpkins, including one very large ribbed pumpkin, a few medium and small round ones, a tall bumpy gourd and a squat warty squash. Two stacked hay bales and a wooden fence stand behind, next to a row of bushes, and little tufts of grass are scattered around the wheel. Big shapes and clear outlines work for preschoolers, and older kids can add shading to the pumpkin ridges. Bright orange fits the pumpkins, deep green suits the bumpy gourd, and golden yellow is right for the straw hay bales. This sheet is free to print at home. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the hay bales, the fence, and the grass using golden yellow for the hay and grass green and lime green for the lawn and bushes.
- 2Color the big pumpkins and the small ones in vivid orange and pumpkin orange, leaving the pale squash in pale cream.
- 3Fill the scarecrow's hat and overalls with caramel brown and denim blue, and color the shirt sleeves in bright red and pale cream.
- 4Paint the wheelbarrow body and rim in bright red, then the wheel and legs in light gray and charcoal gray.
- 5Use forest green and apricot orange for the green and orange squash on the right, and golden yellow for the yellow gourds.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker shading in the pumpkin folds and the hay with a slightly deeper shade of the same color for extra depth.
