No characters this time, just a handful of explorer-style objects with bold, clear outlines that little hands can handle. At the top left is a round wooden shield with vertical planks and studded bolts, and a curved boomerang with striped markings floats next to it. The right side holds an old-fashioned oil lantern with a hanging ring handle and a small flame inside the glass. In the middle left stands a pair of chunky lace-up hiking boots with thick treaded soles. Underneath them is a round pocket compass with a star-shaped needle face, and three simple hearts fill the bottom right corner. Warm golds and oranges work for the lantern flame, browns for the shield and boots, and bright red or pink for every heart. Print this free page and keep some extra copies around. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Fill the shield planks, the boomerang body and the boomerang tip stripes with wood brown, leaving the round center of the shield white.
- 2Color the shield rim and its studs steel gray, and the lantern hanging ring and handles white.
- 3Color the boot uppers and laces area with caramel, then add dark brown to the boot toes, heels and collars.
- 4Fill the lantern body with forest green and the glass panes with sky blue, add the orange flame, and color the lantern bolt light silver.
- 5Color the three hearts bright red, the boomerang tips and stripes bright yellow and golden yellow, and the compass face cream with a golden yellow rim, then finish the compass needle in bright red and dark gray.
- 6Optional: add a few light strokes of a darker shade on the shield planks and boot leather to give them some depth.
