Sleepy Rock-Top Dragon and Butterfly, How to Train Your Dragon Coloring Page

Coloring guide
Curled up on a big boulder, this chubby little dragon has its eyes squeezed shut in a happy smile, and a tiny butterfly has landed on its nose. The free printable shows a large fan-shaped frill behind the head, small horns on top, and a row of pointed spikes down the back and curled tail. Little toes show on the front paws, which rest side by side. The tail ends in a broad striped fin that wraps around the front of the rock, and a few grass tufts and pebbles sit at the base. Big open shapes are easy for small hands, and the frill and tail stripes offer older kids some detail. Soft teal or lavender looks nice on the body, with warm orange on the frill and spikes. Yellow or pink on the butterfly will make it stand out against the dragon's face. Add this to your How to Train Your Dragon coloring page collection, alongside Barbie and Puppy Dog Pals.

- golden yellow
- ocean blue
- cream
- sage gray
- pale yellow
A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big dragon body, head, and left arm in grass green, leaving the belly area for later.
- 2Color the large back fan in tangerine orange, working from the outer edges toward the spines.
- 3Fill the rock base and pebbles with light gray, and the grass and tail underside with sage gray for a soft shadowed look.
- 4Use sky blue for the tail fin at the bottom and ocean blue for the curled tail spikes, keeping the tail fin edges neat.
- 5Add golden yellow to the head horn, head spikes, and back spikes, and use cream for the claws and toe tips.
- 6Optional: Add a pale yellow highlight on the belly and leave the butterfly and the dragon's closed eyes uncolored for a crisp finish.
