Paddling through shallow water, this cheerful baby sea turtle has big shiny eyes and an open, happy smile. Little oval spots dot its round head, and the patterned shell is built from large and small sections that are easy for small hands to fill in. The flippers are spotted too, which is good practice for tiny details. Wavy lines at the top and sides show the water, and along the bottom of the page you'll find a ridged scallop shell, a dotted starfish and a few small pebbles on the sand. Thick, clean outlines suit preschoolers and early elementary kids. Soft greens for the head and flippers, warm browns and golds for the shell sections, and pink or orange for the starfish are good picks. A handy free printable for an ocean theme at home or in class.

A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Paint the water at the top, left, and right with sky blue, and keep the small sand dots and the area around the shells white.
- 2Fill the big center plates of the turtle shell with chocolate brown, then color the outer rim with tangerine orange and golden yellow on the left edge.
- 3Color the turtle head, body, and both flippers with lime green, and fill the back foot with grass green.
- 4Add pale yellow to the underside of the shell and pale lime to the neck area, keeping the eye whites white.
- 5Color the scallop shell in soft pink and the starfish in bright orange.
- 6Finish with dark green spots on the head and flippers, and fill the tongue in soft pink to complete the turtle.
