Standing at home plate in a ready stance, this cheerful young batter grips the bat near his shoulder and gets set for the pitch. He has on a batting helmet with an ear flap, a button-up jersey, a belt, and striped-side pants pulled up to the knees over striped socks, plus cleats. Behind him you'll see a chain-link fence, rounded bushes, three puffy clouds and small tufts of grass around the dirt. The big shapes on the jersey, pants and helmet are easy for small hands to fill in. Red or blue would look great on the uniform and helmet, with green grass and sandy tan ground near the plate. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Fill the grass field and the small grass tufts with lime green, leaving the white lines of the field edges and home plate untouched.
- 2Color the two bushes on the left and right with bright green, then fill the fence mesh with sage green, staying inside the lines.
- 3Paint the two fluffy clouds with sky blue, and color the wooden bat with tan, leaving its round handle end lightly white if you like.
- 4Fill the batting helmet, its brim and both ear pads with royal blue and navy blue, then add royal blue to the blue stripes on the shirt and the buttons down the front.
- 5Color the face, neck, arm and hand with light peach, the hair with chestnut brown, the belt and fence posts with light gray, the socks with royal blue and the cleats with charcoal gray.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker shading under the helmet and along the shoes for depth, and keep the eyes, teeth, shirt and pants white for a crisp look.
