In the middle of this round mandala is a friendly smiling butterfly with curly antennae, rosy cheeks and a striped body. Each of the four wings has a big heart in the center, ringed by small circles and scalloped edges. A circle of five-petal flowers and pointed leaves wraps around the butterfly, and one smooth oval line holds it all together. Thick lines and roomy shapes make it a good fit for preschoolers and early elementary kids, and the repeating flowers and dots give older children more to do. Pink or red hearts look great here, with a different shade for each wing dot, rainbow flowers and green leaves around the edge. It's a free printable that works for a calm moment at home or in class. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start by filling the open background around the mandala with sky blue, leaving the butterfly and flower wreath for later.
- 2Color both large butterfly wings baby pink, then fill the wing outlines and edges with violet purple.
- 3Color the two hearts on the wings raspberry pink and the lower wing spots as shown, leaving the small round spots white.
- 4Color the butterfly head and the flower centers golden yellow, then fill the body with golden yellow and the tail section with orange stripes.
- 5Fill the flower wreath with bright blue, baby pink and violet purple petals, and color the leaves forest green or leaf green.
- 6Optional: Add a few small white highlights on the leaves and petals to make the colors pop.
