Friendly Chameleon Says Hello to a Snail

Crouching on a thick branch, a big-eyed chameleon leans down with a wide smile to say hi to a tiny snail. The chameleon has a curly spiral tail, a pointed head crest, small spikes down its back and soft stripes on the body. The snail grins back, with two round-tipped antennae and a swirly shell. Large leaves frame the top corners, more leaves and grass cluster at the bottom, and a spotted mushroom sits in the lower right. Big, clean shapes are easy for little hands, and there are enough small details to keep older kids busy. Bright greens and yellows suit the chameleon, and a warm orange or red mushroom cap will pop against the leaves. This free printable is nice for quiet time at home or a nature-themed class. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the chameleon's head, body, legs, tail and back crest in grass green, leaving the big eye whites untouched.
- 2Fill the chameleon's side stripe and back crest with lemon yellow, then add a soft rose pink to its open mouth.
- 3Color the leaves in grass green, keeping the little light lines along the leaf stems white.
- 4Paint the branch and the snail's shell in warm brown, then fill the snail's body, head and antennas with golden yellow.
- 5Color the mushroom cap in bright red and the stem in cream, leaving the round spots white.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker shading on the underside of the chameleon and the lower edge of the branch to make them stand out.
