Desert Cactus Chameleon with Blooming Flowers

High on top of a tall cactus, a big-eyed, friendly chameleon clings on with its striped body arched behind it and its tail curled into a spiral. The cactus is covered in little star-shaped spines and has three blooming flowers with dotted centers, one on each side and one lower down. A round sun with rays shines in the upper corner, and the desert ground has small rolling hills, rocks and grass tufts. Large shapes and clean lines make this free printable a good fit for young children, and older kids who like to add detail will enjoy it too. Bright green with orange and yellow stripes would look great on the chameleon, and pink or purple flowers add a pop. The spiral tail is a good place to practice switching between two or three colors. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big cactus stems and pads in sea green, leaving the small gaps between them white.
- 2Color the chameleon body in sea green, then fill its tail stripes and spiral with yellow green and light lime green.
- 3Add the chameleon's head, face, and hands in light lime green, keeping the eye whites and the eye shine white.
- 4Fill the flower petals in coral pink and their centers in golden yellow, then color the sun golden yellow.
- 5Color the rocks and the bottom edge of the desert ground in light gray, and paint the crest spikes on the back in orange.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker green along the chameleon's legs and the lower cactus edges to give depth.
