Sitting on a curved branch, this big-eyed, friendly chameleon looks up at a butterfly that has settled right on the tip of its snout. There's lots to color on this free printable page. The chameleon has a pointed head crest, a row of scalloped bumps along the back and curvy stripes across the body, with its tail ending in a spiral at the bottom left. Two five-petal blossoms sit along the branch among large leaves, and the butterfly has swirly antennae and rounded sections inside its wings. Bold lines and roomy shapes suit preschoolers and early elementary kids. You could run a mix of greens, yellows and oranges through the stripes and back bumps, then pick soft pink for the flowers and bright purple for the butterfly so it pops. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the chameleon's body, head crest, and tail in light green, leaving the big eye white empty.
- 2Color the back spikes and the small belly patch in lemon yellow, then add dark green stripes along the side and back.
- 3Fill the leaves in leaf green and the branch in warm brown, with dark brown for the shaded part of the branch.
- 4Paint the flower petals in rose pink, adding golden yellow to the flower centers and fresh green to the tail tip and toes.
- 5Color the butterfly wings with orange, golden yellow, and violet purple, and make its body sky blue.
- 6Optional: Leave small white highlights on the eye and wing spots, and add a little darker shade under the body for depth.
