Long Chinese Dragon Winding Over Mountains and Waves

With big round eyes and a cheerful smile, this friendly long-bodied Chinese dragon twists in an S-shape through the sky. Rows of tiny scales cover its body, and it has a banded belly, a flowing mane, whiskers that curl out past its snout, and clawed feet reaching to each side. Swirly clouds fill the background, rocky mountain peaks topped with little pine trees rise along the bottom edges, and rolling ocean waves with curved lines sit under the tail. The small scales and wave patterns are great for older kids, teens or anyone after a calm, longer coloring session. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the sky: fill the clouds and background areas around the dragon with light sky blue, and use pale blue for the softer cloud edges. Leave the open white sky between clouds blank.
- 2Color the mountains with leaf green and emerald green, using jade green on a few of the lower slopes to add depth. Keep the wave-filled water at the bottom mostly white for now.
- 3Paint the dragon's long body and its scales with light cream, and use butter yellow for the horns and golden yellow for the face, claws and the stripes along the tail.
- 4Add ocean blue to the sea waves at the bottom and to the water shapes between the rocks, then fill the small pale mint patches on the lower mountains.
- 5Finish with the orange ear and the small details: tangerine orange for the ear, and keep the eyes, teeth and the white highlights on the scales unpainted. Optional: add a little light gray shading under the dragon's belly and along the mountain bases.
