Hanging from a twisted rope tied around its middle, this donkey piñata has a happy face, big round eyes, a wide muzzle and tall pointed ears. Its body is built from rows of fringed paper layers, and it also has a fluffy fringed tail and a little halter strap over the nose. Rectangular confetti pieces, small circles and wrapped candies with twisted ends are scattered all around. All that fringe makes lots of small sections, so kids can build a rainbow by changing colors on every row, say red, yellow, green and blue, and then pick bright shades for the candies and confetti. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the donkey's head and snout in golden yellow, leaving the two eye whites and the small highlight on the front leg white.
- 2Fill the main body stripes one row at a time, alternating golden yellow, hot pink, grass green and sky blue, working from the back toward the legs.
- 3Color the legs with stripes of golden yellow, grass green, lavender purple and sky blue, and finish the hooves in deep purple.
- 4Color the ears in tangerine orange, golden yellow and grass green, then add the halter and head band in bright red and orchid purple.
- 5Color the tail with bright blue, lavender purple, tangerine orange and hot pink, then fill the candies and confetti in matching colors.
- 6Optional: Add a little shading by using a slightly darker shade of each color along the lower edges of the stripes.
