Lunchtime has arrived for the chickens. A farmer girl in a wide-brimmed straw hat, overalls and tall rubber boots holds a bucket of grain in one hand and tosses seeds with the other. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the hens' bodies, necks and combs with rust orange, and the chicks with golden yellow, leaving the eye whites untouched.
- 2Fill the overalls and both pant legs with denim blue, then color the bucket and feed scoop area with light gray and the feed grain with medium gray.
- 3Color the girl's hat with straw yellow and its band with barn red, then add chestnut brown hair and skin peach on the face, neck and arms.
- 4Use barn red for the shirt, sleeves and barn walls, and wood tan for the fence posts and rails, leaving the small window pane sky blue.
- 5Color the boots forest green and the grass strips behind the fence grass green, adding lime green to the hen legs and the bottom grass.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker shading on the hens' wings and the shadowed side of the barn for depth.
