Down a town street rolls a grinning monster truck with big round eyes, a bunch of balloons tied to its roof above a row of round lights. Bunting with little stars is draped across the hood and sides, and more balloons with bows are tied at the front bumper. The huge chunky tires have deep treads, which leave lots of room for colorful detail. Families wave from the curb on both sides, including kids, parents and a man in a cap. Behind them are leafy trees, cozy houses, a church steeple, a street lamp with hanging flower baskets, triangle pennant flags and puffy clouds, and confetti-like shapes dot the road. Try a red truck body and every balloon color you can think of, with dark gray tires so the decorations stand out. Print it at home for classroom time or a rainy day. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big body of the truck: color the windshield and the hood in sky blue and the main body in bright red, leaving the balloon highlights and eye whites white.
- 2Fill the balloons next: use bright blue for the top and side balloons and bright red for the top left and left balloon, keeping the center and two lower balloons white.
- 3Color the giant tires and their hubs in dark gray, and the front axle and springs in silver gray, adding the road in light gray around the wheels.
- 4Add the lime green and leaf green trees, bushes and grass around the street, plus the houses in cream and warm taupe.
- 5Color the golden yellow headlights, the smile, and the bright red garlands, then add the balloon strings in sky blue.
- 6Optional: add a little darker shading along the tire treads and under the truck body to give the drawing more depth.
