Crouched on a gnarled tree branch, a big, friendly mother spider with long-lashed eyes and an open smile carries five tiny babies on her round back. Each little one has a fluffy head, big sparkly eyes and a cheerful grin, and a few peek over the top as if waving. Leafy twigs fill the corners, and wood-grain lines run along the branch. Segmented legs and fuzzy heads offer plenty of fun shapes, and the large areas on mama's body are easy for small hands. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the wooden branch at the bottom and across the left side in warm brown.
- 2Fill the big spider's body, back, and most of its legs with medium purple, leaving the belly and some legs white.
- 3Color the big spider's head and the five small baby spiders in light lavender, adding a slightly deeper violet to a few leg areas.
- 4Fill all the leaves in the corners with leaf green, leaving the thin lines and the little highlights unpainted.
- 5Color the smile in deep rose and add a bright pink tongue, keeping the eye whites, belly, and background white.
- 6Optional: add a few light strokes of darker purple along the sides of the body to give it some depth.
