Polka Dot Plant and Butterfly Friends in a Plants vs. Zombies Pot

In a flower pot sits a polka dot plant with a big round head and a wide open mouth showing rows of pointy teeth. Don't worry, the eyes are bright and the expression is happy, not scary. A small smiling butterfly with patterned wings rests right at the edge of that mouth, so the two look like pals. The plant has a curved stem and two large leaves covered in circles of different sizes, which are fun to decorate. Tall grass and three daisy-style flowers fill the bottom of the page. With large shapes and bold lines, it works well for younger kids and early readers. Try purple or blue on the spotted head, bright green for leaves and grass, and orange and yellow for the butterfly's wings. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Fill the big round plant head and the tall stem with leaf green, leaving the eye whites and the mouth area for later.
- 2Color the two large leaves, the grass blades and the outer dots on the head side with forest green, then fill the pot with terracotta orange and its rim with chocolate brown.
- 3Paint the open mouth with deep red, the tongue with salmon pink and the lower jaw with lime green, keeping the teeth pale cream.
- 4Color the butterfly with apricot, tangerine orange, orchid purple and rose pink on its wings, and give its little body a tan shade.
- 5Add golden yellow to the round spots on the head and leaves and to the flower centers, leaving the flower petals, leaf dots and pot highlight white.
- 6Optional: Add a few darker strokes of leaf green and forest green along the edges of the leaves and head for a little depth.
