A friendly cartoon snake lifts its head above rippling water, with big round eyes, a cheerful grin and a little forked tongue out. The long body curves back through the pond, covered in large oval spots with a banded belly. Cattails, grassy bushes and rounded rocks line the shore behind it, and under the surface three smiling fish swim among tiny bubbles and tall water plants. There is variety here for kids, from big spots that are simple to fill to small fish scales for finer pencil work. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Fill the snake's long body and the tall grass along the pond edges with grass green, and color the snake's head with lime green.
- 2Color the snake's round spots and neck bands with golden yellow, and add a few pale yellow touches on the tail.
- 3Paint the three fish with orange, and color the reeds and seaweed at the bottom with grass green or sage green.
- 4Fill the rocks with warm gray, the cattail tops with chocolate brown, and the water ripples and splashes with sky blue.
- 5Color the snake's open mouth coral pink, and leave the eye whites white so the snake looks bright and cheerful.
- 6Optional: add slightly darker green along the underside of the snake's body to give it a little shading.
