A friendly cartoon snake with big sparkly eyes rises from its coils, forked tongue peeking out, grinning next to a small frog on the muddy bank. Large oval spots run down the snake's body and the belly is striped. The frog has round eyes and a wide, happy mouth. Tall cattails and grassy leaves fill both sides, and a smiling dragonfly hovers in the upper right. At the bottom, a lotus flower and flat lily pads float on gently rippling water. Lots of large shapes suit small hands, and the spots are good practice for staying inside the lines. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the snake's head, neck and belly bands and the frog's body in soft yellow, leaving the snake's eye shines and the frog's little highlight spot white.
- 2Fill the snake's coiled back with leaf green, then add golden yellow spots scattered across the coil.
- 3Color the frog's mouth coral pink and its arm and feet in leaf green to match the body.
- 4Color the grass blades, reeds and ground strip in dark green, leaf green and light green, then fill the cattail heads brown.
- 5Paint the lotus flowers rose pink, add a small sky blue tip at the top, and color the lily pads leaf green while leaving the pond water white.
- 6Color the dragonfly wings pale blue and the rocks and pebble in slate gray and light gray. Optional: add a slightly darker shade along the edges of the snake's coil for depth.
