Dewdrop Web Spider Peeking Between Grass Blades

Peeking over the top edge of its web is a sweet little spider with a round fuzzy body, big friendly eyes and a happy smile. Its large orbweb stretches between two tall, curved blades of grass, with threads fanning out and curved rings meeting at the center. Round dewdrops dot the silk and the leaves, and tufts of grass fill the bottom corners. Bold, clear lines and good-sized spaces make this a nice choice for preschoolers and early elementary kids building crayon and marker control. Silvery grays and soft blues work for the web and dewdrops, fresh greens for the grass, and warm brown or purple for the spider. Print it free for a calm afternoon or a nature lesson about bugs. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the web panels in warm orange and royal purple, alternating them like stripes, and use light purple for the panels near the center of the web.
- 2Fill both grass blades on the sides with leaf green, then add lime green to the lower grass tips and the blade bases.
- 3Color the spider's body and head charcoal gray, leaving the two eye whites bright and white.
- 4Color the larger dewdrops on the grass and web sky blue, and leave the small round droplets on the web white so they look shiny.
- 5Optional: Add a touch of dusty plum at the web hub in the center and a little mauve pink around it for depth, plus a darker dark green along the left grass blade.
