Smiling Young Black Panther on Tree Branch
Coloring guide
A cheerful young panther lounges along a thick tree branch with its front paws dangling over the edge and a big smile on its face. Its long tail curls down the right side of the page, and the whiskers, round ears and wide eyes give it a sweet, friendly look. A laughing sun with little ray lines shines in the corner above, and big veined leaves frame the top and bottom of the scene. Large shapes and bold lines make this a good match for preschoolers and early elementary kids still building pencil control. Since this is a black panther page, deep blue, purple or charcoal crayons give the fur a glossy, midnight look. A bright yellow sun and green leaves add contrast. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the sun face and the golden yellow body and head, filling the big areas first with sunny yellow for the sun and golden yellow for the cat.
- 2Color the curled tail and the back of the body in golden yellow, leaving the cheeks and muzzle area for later.
- 3Fill the muzzle and lower chin with cream, then add golden yellow to the cheeks.
- 4Paint the branch in bark brown, and fill the ears inside with light pink and the nose with dusty rose.
- 5Use leaf green for all the leaves at the corners of the page, leaving the small background corner white.
- 6Finish by leaving the eye shine spots and small whisker highlights white, and add a little extra shading in the darker parts of the branch if you like.
