On the sand in her beach outfit, Dora waves one hand at a big round sun behind her. A ring of little dots and half-circle rays surrounds the sun, and they're satisfying to fill in one at a time. She has her classic bob haircut with bangs and a wide open smile. Her swimsuit top comes with a wrap skirt tied at the hip, and she wears flip-flops and a beaded bracelet on the waving wrist. The other hand carries a small bucket with a shovel poking out. Wavy lines behind her suggest the ocean and shoreline. Preschoolers will like the large shapes and clean outlines, while older kids can spend time on the dots. Yellow and orange suit the sun, turquoise the waves, and pink the wrap skirt. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big sun disk and all the sun rays around it in golden yellow, leaving the small highlight dots white.
- 2Color Dora's skin areas, including her face, arms, hand, neck and legs, in light orange.
- 3Fill her hair in chocolate brown, then color the bucket and shovel with sky blue, grass green and tomato red.
- 4Color the sarong wrap and its knot in hot pink, adding a soft peach edge along the lower part and a ocean blue hem at the bottom.
- 5Add the lilac purple top and the warm gray eye irises, and make the mouth hot pink.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker shading in the hair and along the sarong folds for depth, and keep the eye whites and arm highlight white.
