Swaying Seaweed and Sunbeams in the Ocean
Coloring guide
Out of a cluster of smooth rocks, long wavy seaweed fronds reach upward. A tall plant stands in the center with smaller clumps on the left and right. Wavy lines at the top mark the water's surface, and straight rays of sunlight slant down through the water. Round bubbles in different sizes rise on both sides, and a few small pebbles rest on the sea floor. The wide leaf shapes leave lots of space for crayons or markers, and the flowing ribbons are fun for kids who like tracing curves. Mix greens from lime to deep teal on the fronds, and try pale yellow in the light rays for a glow. No sign-up is needed to download this free PDF. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the background water between the seaweed in sky blue, and the light beam at the top in bright blue, leaving the wavy water surface lines white.
- 2Fill the tall seaweed blades with forest green, leaving thin white gaps along the edges so each leaf stands out.
- 3Add lime green to the lighter sides of the seaweed blades, and use leaf green on the outer leaves near the bottom and right.
- 4Color the darkest seaweed areas near the base and inner leaves with dark green, and touch the tip of the right-hand leaf with teal.
- 5Fill the rocks and pebbles at the bottom with gray, then color the bubbles pale blue, leaving a small white shine in each one.
- 6Optional: add a few light strokes of a darker shade inside the rocks and along one side of each leaf to give them more depth.
