Thirsty Black Panther at the Pond with a Heron and Fish
Coloring guide
At the edge of a pond, a big-eyed panther crouches low and laps at the water with its tongue out, little ripples spreading around it. Its tail curls high behind its back and its large paws rest on the bank. Three small fish swim in the foreground, one lily pad holds a water lily bloom, and another floats close by. A tall heron stands in the shallows on the right, watching, with reeds around it, while cattails and grasses cover the left side. Bold outlines and roomy shapes make this a good fit for young colorers. Deep blue-black with a purple shine would look good on the panther, and orange fish will pop against the water. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Fill the panther's body, head, tail and the long beak of the heron with golden orange, leaving the eyes and the nose area for later.
- 2Color the panther's paws and the lighter areas of its face with light peach, and give the ears and tongue rose pink.
- 3Paint the pond water and the lower ripple rings with sky blue, adding light aqua for the bright splash by the tongue.
- 4Color the grass, reeds and lily pads with lime green and leaf green, then fill the cattails with chocolate brown.
- 5Fill the bank rocks with taupe gray, the lotus flowers with rose pink, the fish with pale blue and the heron's wing with slate blue, keeping the heron's body white.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker leaf green or sky blue along the edges of the grass and water for depth, and leave the eye whites, the background and the heron's body white.
