Big hexagon cells fill the background of this honeycomb page, and three round, smiling bees hover across it. Every bee has big sparkly eyes, two curly antennae, a striped body, little jointed legs and two rounded wings. One flies at the top left, one sits at the middle right, and one is at the bottom left, so the page feels balanced and lively. Thick, clean outlines and roomy shapes are easy for younger children, while the repeating hexagons let older kids fill in patterns of their own. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the honeycomb background: fill most of the hexagon cells with golden yellow, leaving a few cells in pale yellow for variety.
- 2Color the bees' heads, body stripes, antennae and legs in golden yellow, following the yellow parts of each bee.
- 3Fill all four wings of each bee with sky blue, keeping the wing shapes clean and the lines dark.
- 4Add the dark bands on each bee's body with charcoal gray, coloring the stripes between the yellow ones.
- 5Optional: Add a few pale yellow touches on the honeycomb cells for a little extra glow around the bees.
