Three cheerful butterflies with big round eyes and curly antennae flutter through the woods, each smiling straight at you. Their wings are filled with big and small circles, rounded cells and curved lines, so you can color one section at a time. Tall tree trunks and leafy treetops rise in the background with soft bushes behind the butterflies. Along the bottom, daisy-style flowers, small blossoms, buds and long blades of grass grow thick. Younger kids can fill the large wing shapes, while the dots and tiny petals give older kids a chance to practice careful coloring. Give each butterfly its own wing colors, maybe purple, orange and turquoise, and keep the flowers bright against green grass. It works for a quiet afternoon at home or a nature-themed class. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big butterfly wings: fill the upper and lower wing sections of all three butterflies with lavender and light blue, leaving the small round dots white.
- 2Color the wing tips and inner panels with hot pink and light pink, and add sky blue along the outer edge of the bottom-left butterfly.
- 3Use orange on the outer edge of the right butterfly and apricot on the top butterfly's upper wing for a warm accent.
- 4Fill the butterfly heads with lemon yellow and the bodies with golden yellow, keeping the eye whites and little shine dots white.
- 5Color the tree trunks in brown and the leafy tops and grass in lime green and forest green, then add bright hot pink to the daisy petals while leaving their centers white.
- 6Optional: Add a little peach or purple shading near the edges of the wings to make them look softer.
