Three-Tier Día de Muertos Altar with Sugar Skulls

Coloring guide
At the top of this three-tiered altar sits a framed portrait of a smiling woman wearing a flower crown, with two patterned vases of marigolds and tall candles on either side. Papel picado banners with flower cutouts hang overhead, and marigold branches with leaves climb both sides. On the middle tier, a decorated sugar skull sits on each side of a plate of pan de muerto, with more candles next to them. The bottom tier has a larger sugar skull in the center, candles of different heights and two more pots of marigolds. Lacy cloths with flower patterns cover every level, and a few petals lie on the tiled floor. Bright orange and yellow suit the marigolds, while pink, turquoise and purple can go on the skull designs. - 1Start with the top tablecloth and the portrait frame: color the purple cloth with royal purple, and fill the portrait background with golden yellow while leaving the face in peach skin.
- 2Color the middle tablecloth and both side edges in tangerine orange, then fill the long bottom tablecloth with sky blue.
- 3Fill the bread and its top with amber gold, and color the frame and the sugar skulls' details with dark brown and tangerine orange, keeping the skull eyes and teeth white.
- 4Color the candles in cream white, then add forest green to the leaves and lime green to the right side leaves.
- 5Finish the banners with raspberry and rose pink, and add sand tan to the pillars and floor. Leave the flowers and background white as in the example.
- 6Optional: Add a little bronze shading along the edges of the purple and orange tablecloths for a bit more depth.
