Triceratops Family Walking Past a Volcano

A big mother triceratops walks toward you with a gentle smile, her frilled head and three horns drawn in bold, easy lines. A baby triceratops trots on each side of her, and both look up with big round eyes. A small volcano behind them sends a cloud of smoke into the sky, and palm trees, leafy ferns and grass tufts fill out the prehistoric landscape. The frills have scalloped edges and the mother has spots along her body, giving little hands fun details to color. Younger kids will like the large open areas, while older kids can spend time on the ferns and frills. Soft greens and teals look nice on the dinosaurs, with warm orange and red on the volcano for contrast. It's a free printable for dinosaur fans or a family-themed activity. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start by coloring the big adult triceratops body and the two baby triceratops in lime green, leaving the adult's belly and back leg area for later.
- 2Fill the adult's belly, lower body and front leg with light green, and color the grass green bushes and fern leaves around the scene.
- 3Paint the volcano in chocolate brown and add tangerine orange lava at the top and down the side, then color the palm tree trunks in caramel and the coconuts in chocolate brown.
- 4Color the frills and the back edges of the adults and babies in khaki, and fill the horns and the baby snout horns with cream, keeping the sky and the spotted white patches on the adult's side white.
- 5Optional: Add a little light green or darker green shading on the bushes and fern leaves, and color the small gray pebble on the ground last.
