Crouching down in a knit beanie with a pom-pom, a friendly cartoon turtle holds out a small empty bowl to a fluffy kitten sitting right in front of him. He has big shiny eyes, a happy open-mouth smile, a spiked shell, a striped shirt and round pads on his elbows and knees. The kitten gazes up with wide eyes, long whiskers and a curled, fluffy tail. The city alley around them has a brick wall, two lidded trash cans, a wooden crate and a tall street lamp, plus a few puddles and pebbles on the ground. He isn't clearly one of the famous ninja turtles, so think of him as a kind, street-wise turtle. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the turtle's big shell: fill the main shell area with leaf green and the shell rim with butter cream, leaving the spikes for later.
- 2Color the turtle's head, body, arms and legs with golden yellow, then fill the spikes, toes and claws with ivory.
- 3Add sky blue to the knit beanie and its band, then color the knee and elbow pads in royal blue, leaving their light gray centers.
- 4Give the kitten a medium gray body and tail, and fill the trash cans and pavement with medium gray. Use soft pink for the kitten's inner ears.
- 5Finish the scene with brick orange for the wall bricks, wood brown for the crate, bright red for the bowl, pale blue for the water, forest green for the lamp post and butter cream for the lamp top. Optional: add a few darker strokes on the shell and kitten for depth. Keep the turtle's eye whites, the kitten's muzzle and the background gaps white.
