A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.

1. 1Start with the big red areas: color Santa's coat, hat and the red saddle on the rocking horse in bright red.
2. 2Fill the elves' outfits and hats with forest green, leaving the fur trims, beard and cuffs white.
3. 3Color the rocking horse body and mane with light gold, and the face and hands of Santa and the elves with peach skin.
4. 4Add the wooden floor, shelves, stool and rocker base in orange brown, and the horse's legs in dark brown.
5. 5Use a crimson shade for the cloth behind the horse and a sky blue for the window, then add the gift boxes and toys with a few bright accents.
6. 6Optional: Add a little darker shading in warm brown on the horse's sides and under Santa's belt for depth.
