Waving a star-decorated flag high overhead, a smiling young knight in a plumed helmet, armor and flowing cape rides in the saddle of a big, cheerful dragon. The dragon soars through a cloudy sky on wide bat-like wings, with a spotted belly, scaly tail, small horns and a happy open-mouthed grin, plus a bridle with reins. Far below is a landscape full of detail: patchwork farm fields, fences, a stone bridge over a stream, a windmill, rolling hills and a little village with a church steeple. There's a good mix here, from large wing areas to tiny houses and trees. A bright green dragon with orange spots and a sunny yellow flag against a soft blue sky is one idea to try. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the dragon's body, legs, head and tail in leaf green, leaving the small white spots and the white spikes on the tail uncolored.
- 2Fill the dragon's belly, side bands and horns with pale yellow, and color the saddle strap brown with the buckle in golden yellow.
- 3Color the knight's face and hands in light peach, the plume and cape in red, and the armor and vest in bright blue and light gray, leaving the flag pole white.
- 4Paint the big wings in yellow green and the sky clouds in light sky blue, keeping the open sky background white.
- 5Color the flag star golden yellow, then fill the hills in periwinkle blue and the fields, trees and village roofs in lime green, grass green and leaf green.
- 6Optional: Add a little extra shading on the dragon's belly and the knight's armor with a slightly darker shade of the same color for more depth.
