A Frog and Snail Watching a Rainbow from a Mossy Log

Seen from behind, a little frog and a snail sit side by side on a mossy log and look up at a big rainbow arching over the water. Round spots mark the frog's back and sides, and the snail has a large swirled shell and two long eyestalks. Calm ripples fill the lake behind them, soft bushes line the far shore, and a puffy cloud sits at each end of the rainbow. Up front, lily pads and a few blades of grass sit beside the log, whose cut end shows a spiral ring. The rainbow's wide bands are easy to fill in, so go with red, orange, yellow, green and blue, then make the frog a bright leaf green. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Leave the sky, both clouds and the tips of the snail's eyes white so they shine against the color.
- 2Color the rainbow bands from the outside in: tomato red, golden yellow, bright green, sky blue, then violet purple on the innermost band.
- 3Fill the frog's body and its small spots with bright green, and add grass green to the darker spots on its back and side. Color the frog's legs pale green.
- 4Color the water on both sides and the thin ripple area in sky blue, then fill the bushes on the left and right with grass green.
- 5Fill the mossy log top and the moss on the right with bright green, then color the snail's shell in caramel brown and its neck and foot in pale gold.
- 6Finish the log ends in pale gold with darker rings, and color the lily pads, reeds and grass in grass green. Optional: Add a little extra darker green under the frog and the lily pads for a bit of shadow.
