Tom the cat is furious here, standing tall on his hind legs with thick slanted eyebrows, gritted teeth and his tongue stuck out. Both fists are raised and bent like he's stomping and shaking. Little Jerry faces him from the ground, scowling right back with clenched teeth and his tiny hands up. A few small motion lines near their feet and fists add to the tension. Behind them you'll see a tall pine tree, a wooden fence, a leafy tree trunk on the right and tufts of grass across the lawn. Younger kids can handle the bold outlines and big open areas, while the grass and fence give older kids more to work on. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the sky and the path, leaving them white, then color the tree trunks on the right in dark brown.
- 2Color the pine tree, the garden bushes and the background shrubs in forest green.
- 3Fill Tom's body, head, raised arm and back leg with cool gray, and his belly and chin with light gray and medium gray.
- 4Color the wooden fence in tan and Jerry's body and legs in warm brown, adding pink to Jerry's ear and Tom's inner ear.
- 5Add lime green to the grass in the foreground, leaving Tom's paws, toes, teeth and the eye whites white.
- 6Optional: Add a little extra shading to Tom's belly and legs with a slightly darker gray for depth.
