A smiling baby calf sits in a grassy patch, and a small butterfly has landed right on the tip of its nose while the calf's big round eyes look straight at it. The calf has little horns, floppy ears, a fluffy tuft of hair on its forehead and big patchy spots on its body and cheek. Its tail curls around the side with a tufted end. Daisy-style flowers on tall stems surround it, with small grass tufts along the bottom and sides. Bold, simple outlines and roomy shapes suit preschoolers and early elementary kids who are learning to stay inside the lines. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start by filling the cow's patches with chocolate brown: the spots on its back, neck, cheek, front and back legs, the tail tip, and the outer rim of the right ear.
- 2Next, color the two horns light tan and the inside of the left ear and the right ear's inner area salmon pink.
- 3Fill the cow's nose with light pink and add a small coral red nostril dot.
- 4Paint the leaves and grass tufts grass green, and color the flower centers golden yellow, leaving the petals, stems, and the cow's body and eyes white.
- 5Color the butterfly's wings with bright orange and add golden yellow to the top wing tips.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker brown along the edges of the brown spots and a touch of shadow under the cow for depth.
