A baby giraffe and a baby zebra stand side by side with their heads together, both grinning happily. The giraffe has two little knobbed horns, large ears, and rounded spots running down its long neck and body. The zebra leans in with a tufted mane and bold curved stripes across its face, body, and legs. Each has a tail that ends in a small tuft. Behind them floats a big empty circle that could be a sun or a moon, and a few blades of grass sit in the bottom corners. Spots and stripes are easy to follow, so this free printable suits preschoolers and early elementary kids. You could add warm orange-yellow patches to the giraffe and keep the zebra classic black and white, or let kids choose a bright color for the circle in the sky. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the giraffe's body, head, and long legs in golden yellow, leaving the white highlights and the gaps between legs uncolored.
- 2Fill the zebra's head, body, and legs with warm orange, keeping the muzzle and cheek areas light.
- 3Color the giraffe's muzzle and the zebra's muzzle in cream, and add the grass in leaf green at the bottom.
- 4Add the giraffe's ears and the zebra's ears in coral pink.
- 5Use caramel brown for the giraffe's rounded spots, then use chocolate brown for the zebra's stripes, mane, tail tips, and hooves.
- 6Optional: Leave small white highlights in the eyes and on the legs, and add a little extra shading with a slightly darker orange on the zebra's sides.
