Baby Owl Perched on a Pumpkin Under the Moon

A big-eyed baby owl sits on top of a round, ribbed pumpkin and grips it with tiny talons. Behind it, a crescent moon and four stars shine in the sky. The owl has tufted ears, long eyelashes, a tiny beak and wings tucked at its sides, plus a belly covered in scalloped feather marks. Little leaves and grass tufts peek out on both sides of the pumpkin at the bottom. With large shapes and bold lines, this one is a good match for preschoolers and early elementary kids using crayons or chunky markers. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the whole pumpkin with pumpkin orange, leaving thin gaps between the segments so the ridges still show.
- 2Fill the owl's face with cream, leaving the big eye circles white.
- 3Color the owl's head feathers, wing tops, and the thin rim around the face with caramel brown.
- 4Add light tan to the owl's round belly and the lower wing feathers, then use chestnut brown on the wing tips.
- 5Fill the leaves at the sides and bottom with leaf green, and the feet and beak with amber yellow and golden yellow.
- 6Color the stars and beak with golden yellow, and keep the eye shine dots white. Optional: Add a little darker shading on the pumpkin edges to make it pop.
