Belly down on the snow, a cheerful baby penguin glides along with its flippers stretched back and its beak open in a happy smile. Speed lines trail behind to show how fast it's going, and it's aimed right at a spiral-bound desk calendar with an empty grid that stands upright in the snow. Two brick-style igloos with arched doorways sit farther back on snowy ground, with rolling hills and mountains along the horizon and small snow mounds scattered around. Kids can fill the blank grid with their own numbers, months or special dates, so this free printable PDF is handy for classrooms and for countdown fun at home. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the penguin's back, tail fin and the big area of its body in charcoal gray, leaving the face and belly white.
- 2Color both flippers and the beak in orange, then add a small pink tongue inside the open mouth.
- 3Fill the mountains and the sky between them with sky blue, and color the left snowy peak's snow cap white.
- 4Color the igloos and the calendar grid in pale ice blue, then shade the igloo doorways with deep blue and the light blue arches.
- 5Color the right side of the calendar stand in bright red, and keep the calendar rings and bottom edge white.
- 6Optional: Add a few darker gray strokes on the penguin's back and light blue patches on the snow to make the picture feel more textured.
