A smiling baby sea turtle sits up inside a cracked eggshell, with big sparkly eyes and a happy open mouth. Its flippers rest over the broken edge, and the hexagon patterns on them are waiting for color. Wavy lines behind the hatchling show the ocean. In front, the sandy beach is dotted with pebbles and tiny specks. There's a spiral shell on the left, a ridged scallop shell on the right, and a starfish with little circles on its arms. Thick, clean lines work well for preschoolers and early elementary kids with crayons or chunky markers. Soft greens suit the head and shell pattern, and sunny yellow and pink could go on the starfish and seashells. It also fits nicely into an ocean-themed lesson. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the big turtle head and the flippers' round spots in lime green, leaving the little eye shines white.
- 2Fill the top shell edges and the outer flippers with dark green, then add leaf green to the inner shell plates and flipper bumps.
- 3Color the belly plates and the lower shell with pale yellow, and add a touch of forest green to the neck area.
- 4Color the ocean with sky blue and aqua, add pale aqua foam near the shore, and fill the sand on the left with golden yellow.
- 5Color the egg shell cream, the starfish orange, and the shells in coral, peach, tan and bubblegum pink, keeping the pebbles tan.
- 6Optional: add a few light strokes of a darker shade along the edges of the egg and shell to give them a bit of depth.
